Mr David J. Calkins

David is the Co-Regional Managing Principal of Gensler’s Asia Pacific and Middle East (APME) region. He leads the senior management team in setting strategic priorities and oversees growth initiatives and client activities in APME. An award-winning architect with a highly valued combination of experience in strategic planning and design across a variety of Practice Areas, David is also a member of Gensler’s Management Committee. Under his helm, the firm has seen many achievements across the technology, science, hospitality, housing, retail, and office building practices.

David is a member of many professional organizations, including the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows, the Singapore Institute of Architects, as well as the William Ward Watkin Dean’s Council of Rice School of Architecture. In 2023, David was named the Singapore CEO of the Year at the IDC Future Enterprise Awards, which recognizes organizations that excel in implementing cutting-edge digital strategies, leveraging technology to drive value and remarkable business outcomes at scale. Additionally, he was honored as the Outstanding Leader in Asia at the Asia Corporate Excellence & Sustainability (ACES) Awards, which acknowledges visionary leaders and sustainability champions across diverse industries in Asia.

Widely regarded as a thought leader, David is frequently invited to speak at industry events and hosts the Gensler Design Podcast, a platform that brings together experts in architecture, design, and technology to explore the future of cities in the APME region.
